THIEVES BAY MARINA
The marina facility is located at 48°46'Nº 123°19W on the west side of North Pender Island in the southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. Entrance to the marina is from Swanson Channel.
The marina is private and is operated by the Magic Lake Estates Property Owners Society (MLPOS). Moorage is available only to MLPOS members and their guests.
For Marina Policies and Procedures, click here.
Those entering the marina are advised to give a wide berth along the west side of the breakwater due to a rock hazard. Those leaving the marina are advised to make sure the orcas (killer whales) are not passing since it is illegal to disturb them.
Charts include Book 3313 or Charts 3441 and 3442 (1:40,000 scale) which provide the best detail, or you can use Chart 3462 which is 1:80,000 and not as detailed, but it does cover both North and South Pender Islands.
Directions: From the ferry at Otter Bay, bear right on MacKinnon Road; bear right on Otter Bay Road and follow it until at ends on Bedwell Harbour Road. Turn right, and continue past the Driftwood Shopping Centre. Stay on the main road, which changes names to Canal Road. Bear right on Aldridge Road when Canal Road veers to the left to South Pender Island. Continue on the main road which changes names to Schooner Way around the next bend. Follow Schooner to a T intersection, and stay on Schooner as it turns to the left. Make the first right on Privateers Road, and follow it until it ends, changing names along the way to Schooner Way and Anchor Way.
Moorage Details: Annual moorage fees are a fraction of what most public marinas charge, although a recent property tax assessment will increase the fees somewhat. The slips have no electrical or water service, and staying on-board overnight is strictly prohibited. Much of the marina is shallow with hazards at low tide so be careful. A boat maintenance grid with water and electricity is available for members in the shallow end of the marina. The larger deepwater slips are reserved mostly for sailboats. The maximum allowed boat length is 36 feet (12' width), and the slips for boats over 30 feet typically have a longer waiting list. Upon purchasing a property with a permanent dwelling at Magic Lake Estates, members can join the MLPOS, and put their name on the waiting list. Residents that actually already own their boats are given priority. MLPOS members may call 629-3686 for further information about the marina and the current status of the waiting list. At time of writing, the waiting list is fairly long. Occasionally temporary moorage may be available for MLPOS members on the waiting list, but at rates much higher than the regular rate. Slips for visiting relatives or guests of MLPOS members may also be available. The MLPOS member must call the marina to determine availability and to work out the payment.

THIEVES BAY PARK
Thieves Bay Park is operated by Pender Island Parks (CRD) and is open to the general public to use. An outhouse, pay phone, picnic tables and swings are also located at the park.
During summer months Orcas (Killer Whales) may swim close to the breakwater, making the vista point next to the marina one of the best orca-watching spots in the region. The vista point is also popular for sunset and storm watching.
Note: Due to the narrow access road that is also used by an ambulence, the public must park in the parking lot indicated below, or along the shoulder of the road to the east of the telephone booth. Do not drive down the marina access road unless you are a marina member loading your boat (30 minute limit).
